They are tiny and they look like little gems dropped in mud. When you pick it up and rub it between your fingers, they start shining.
Sonia and Regi bought this idol of Krishna from Guruyaoor Temple and was very vocal about the all the trouble they had to take to bring him home ,unscratched in the small car they traveled. The idea of having him somewhere really visible was communicated only after the carpentry work was done.
To place a traditional looking statue in a modern surroundings is basically not a good design idea. But we needed to.It was so important for them.
The TV unit was modified by removing the glass panels. The idol fit beautifully inside it.But the real challenge was in bringing together the traditional feel of the idol and the contemporary look of the room together.
That is when Manjadikuru came into the design .The strong of association of Manjidikuru with Guruvayoor and Krishna was symbolically used to blend in the two themes together. And yes the colour “red” did a wonderful job here.
During the handover day we heard this story from Sonia and Regi about how they found krishna. They saw him first in a hotel in Guruvayoor on a bowl of Manjadikuru. They loved it so much that they asked the hotel owners for the shop address and brought it with them on their way back.
We were obviously pleased to hear that . After all isn’t Manjadi that saved the day !
