Dr. Binoy Vallabhassery's Residence
Exterior Elevation
A house belonging to a young nuclear family of a Doctor in Kottayam. The idea was to have an external facade to look more like an office than a home considering the fact that the Ground Floor will be used for private consultancy and their personal preference was also a deciding factor.
Bedroom
Small is beautiful and even comfortable: When space is a premium commodity one needs to make use of every square inch of it. Furnishing must work harder; clever storage is a must.
Kitchen
The kitchen was systematically designed taking into account all vastu recommendations. As both husband and wife are working they prefer spending minimum time in kitchen. The kitchen is therefore strictly functional without much ado.
Living Dining
The Living is visually segregated from the rest of the area using dark venge wooden flooring. Off White vitrified tiles flooring adds to the illusion of space. The neat clean lighting is not obtrusive yet illuminates adequately.
Every single item of furniture of Dr's home was specifically designed and made for space. A good example of this is the bespoke sofa, the shape of which was governed by the external geometry, thus harmonizing the exterior and interior. The interiors are a continuation of the external expression.
Requirements
- Sharp cut square type elevation, without curves.
- Single storied in appearance.
- Long windows in aluminum encroaching both floors.
- Stair room's eastern side in full glass in aluminum frame from top to bottom.
- Air ventilation holes in long sliding glass in aluminum frame ( for closing if using A/c ) surrounding the entire building in upper and ground floors just under the roof with 6 to 8 inch height.
- There is no scope for car porch in side the floor plan for compromising our needs in side the house, so planning for a cellar parking.
- All windows and doors in powder coated aluminum or similar materiel except front wooden main door.
- No parapet shades on terrace, prefer slightly elevated wall height than normal in terrace, but you can incorporate shades around windows if you prefer or as a part of elevation design.
- Kitchen wall (eastern side or slab side) small height broad window in the length of slab for good light in kitchen.
- Mono colour scheme with it's different depths
